Dedicated to St Joseph, the Basilica of Bom Jesus dates back to 1594 and showcases beautiful baroque architecture and was completed in 1605. The church is especially known as the resting place of St. Francis Xavier (a co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and one of the 16th centuries most influential missionaries).Thousands of pilgrims and tourists come to pay their respects to his body, enclosed in a glass coffin.
